This slow down is just what the proverbial doctor ordered.
It’s a great thing to have time freedom. Time freedom means that a routine has been interrupted. It happens occasionally when we might not prefer it, but in this case, I longed for a shake up.
Creativity requires time freedom.
I have a quote from John Cage in my studio which I love.
He says “Nothing is a mistake. There is no win and no fail. There is only make......”
What freedom in that!
I am comforted by experimentation. Make. Make. Then, something exciting happens. As long as I work daily, something emerges.
“Find a place to trust and then, try trusting for a while.”
Trust is a big deal. Life follows art follows life.......
I remind myself that my nature and everything that is expressed through me is particular to me. Isn’t that amazing. When my work emerges, it informs me.
It’s an organic process which is built in. It’s human and accessible to us all.
John Cage suggests that creating and analyzing are two different processes. It is a-okay to play.
“Be happy whenever you can manage it. Enjoy yourself. It is lighter than you think.”
“We are all breaking the rules, even our own rules, and how do we do that? By leaving plenty of room for X qualities.”
This unknown is the magic. It springs from intuition. I love that side of the brain! It's undervalued. Invest in it.
We are all such textile people. We are keen on the tactile, the sensual. We recognize the familiar in other cultures and above all we are intuitive. We love the concept of a woven cloth or a knitted one. Each stitch intertwined with the other.
Thank you so much for the wonderful Baltimore show. It was nourishing for me to be in the marketplace, receiving the positive response to my new work, getting to share with you new colors and styles. It was wonderful to see so many friends again.
We will be in San Francisco at the American Craft Council Show, August 12 - 14 at the Fort Mason Center.
I’m also thrilled to report that we will be in Philly at the 35th Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, November 10 - 13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Judging by all the new work emerging, speed up is just the other side of slow down.
Many hugs,
